Panorama of Slovakia. Slovakia Tours. Tour of Slovakia.

Short description:

This GROUP trip can be organised as the extension to your stay in the Bratislava capitol. It provides the best of what Slovakia has to offer: trip to the High Tatra Mountains, rafting at the Dunajec River in the Pieniny National Park and Spiš Region art treasures.

Itinerary:

Day 1 - Tuesday

Morning departure from Bratislava by private coach. The first stop will be the charming town of Trencin, where Roman legions were stationed in 179 AD. Visit the majestic castle of the medieval oligarch Matus and see the picturesque town below. After a light lunch, follow the Vah River valley into the Tatras. Visit the Demanovska Cave of Freedom, one of the most spectacular cave systems in Europe. Late afternoon arrival in the High Tatras. Welcome dinner at the hotel. [L, D]

Day 2 - Wednesday

The day will be dedicated to the beauty of the Tatra region. In the morning, visit Strbske Pleso, a spa town on the shore of a glacial lake surrounded by a majestic mountain panorama. Continue on to the open-air museum in Pribylina, where you will find examples of local folk architecture. Leisure time in the town of Liptovsky Mikulas, the center of the Liptov Region. In the afternoon return to the High Tatras, to Tatranska Lomnica; then a cable car trip to Skalnate pleso mountain lake, where you can enjoy views of Lomnicky peak, the second highest mountain peak in Slovakia. Dinner at hotel. [B, D]

Day 3 - Thursday

A day with the Gorals – the highlanders – will introduce you to one of the most spectacular regions in Slovakia, a unique area with a distinctive lifestyle and special local dialect. First, visit the wooden Lutheran church at Kezmarok, which is listed as a UNESCO site of World Cultural Heritage. Then continue to the Zamagurie region, where you will visit the former monastery compound in Cerveny Klastor. Rafting on the Dunajec River, which meanders through the Pieniny national park along the Polish-Slovak border, will be the highlight of the day. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the Pieniny Chalet. Continue on to Poprad and relax at the AquaCity spa resort (the entrance not included). [B, L]

Day 4 - Friday

The Spis Region is considered to be the art treasury of Slovakia. Its major monument is the medieval Spis Castle, one of the largest castle compounds in Europe. The quaint local town of Spisske Podhradie lies beneath the castle, along with the medieval church of Zehra. You will visit all of these UNESCO World Cultural Heritage sites. Leisure time in Levoca, a medieval town with a Renaissance town hall and the Gothic St. James Church. The highlight is the spectacular church altar by Master Paul, one of the largest in the world. In the afternoon, return to the High Tatras and enjoy a funicular ride to Hrebienok, then a walk to the Cold Creek Waterfalls. Farewell dinner at a Koliba, a mountain-style restaurant with live music. [B, D]

Day 5 - Saturday

After a morning departure from the High Tatras, continue via the Certovica Pass into the Low Tatras and admire the breath-taking views. The first stop will be in Banska Bystrica, today the main town of Central Slovakia. It is an ancient mining center, with painstakingly restored patrician houses on the main square. Visit the SNP Museum, where you will learn about the anti-Fascist Slovak National Uprising of 1944. Leisure time for lunch. In the afternoon stop over in the neo-classical Chateau Topolcianky, which served as the summer residence of Czechoslovak presidents. Late afternoon arrival in Bratislava, where the tour ends. [B]
